How to install custom recovery on Motorola devices

Most Android users like to have a cool look in their recovery and will like to customize their Android device. Installing a custom recovery is will come in handy in customizing ones Android with features like; root, custom OS, etc.
With Android being an open source system, the limits to its customization are infinite. Manufacturers only tend to deliver certain unique features to specific devices and that’s just about what a regular user would get. So, if you want to add some more features, customize the appearance of the OS, or want to shift to another firmware altogether, you will need a few things. To start with, you will first have to unlock the phone’s bootloader, which will enable you to install a custom recovery.

To install TWRP on your Motorola device, you will need to meet the following first;
  • Make sure you have unlocked the bootloader of your Motorola device.
  • You must take a complete backup of your device.
  • Ensure that your Motorola device is 50% charged.
  • Enable Developer options: Go to Settings > About Phone > Build Number and tap it for 7 times.
  • You must enable USB debugging before installing TWRP. Go to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging & tap to enable it.
  • PC with Internet Connection, USB Cable (preferably original) & your Motorola Device.

Next, you can now head on to installing TWRP on You MOTO device by following these steps;
  1. Download and install ADB + Fastboot drivers on your Computer
  2. Once you have done that, it will create an "adb" folder in the C:\ directory of your Computer.
  3. With your Motorola device on, connect it to the Computer and allow it to install the drivers. When it prompts you to authorize the connection to the PC, accept.
  4. Now open the ADB folder from your C:\ drive, press Shift + Right Click and select "open new command prompt here"
  5. To check device connection, use the command adb devices
  6. Once you have confirmed your device is connected, boot to bootloader mode by typing: adb reboot bootloader
  7. Once in fastboot mode or bootloader mode, use the command fastboot flash recovery [filename].img. Here if you name the twrp image as twrp, then you will need to enter fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
  8. When the flashing is done, exit bootloader mode using fastboot reboot command.
